There is a Facebook group called DoRight Liberty. It appears to be a relatively new group. As of today, it appears to have between 15-20 likes. They will have their work cut out for them since Liberty University is one of the last remaining fundamentalist schools to be targets for sexual crimes.
Liberty University student shot, killed by campus security officer, an article by Steve Hardy of the Lynchburg News & Advance, makes the following claim:
Violent crimes on campus are rare. Under the Jeanne Clery Act, all universities, including Liberty University, that participate in federal financial aid programs must report crimes around their campuses. Off-campus facilities at the university have not reported violent crimes from 2010 to 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
On-campus violent offenses reported during that time included eight forcible sexual assaults and one aggravated assault, according to Department of Education data. There were seven reported weapons offenses on campus during that time period.
One of the people at DoRight Liberty has confirmed that Hardy’s assertion is correct. There were approximately eight sexual assaults and one aggravated assault at Liberty between 2010 and 2012.
Liberty University has not exactly been in the press regarding sexual abuse crimes. If anything, it’s the opposite. They’re the standard bearers!
Boz Tchividjian, a Liberty University law professor, is currently working on the GRACE report about abuse at Bob Jones University. But whose minding the store at Liberty University when abuse rears its ugly head?
What about the sexual assaults alleged to have occurred at Liberty University? What independent party will investigate alleged sexual abuse at Liberty University? Currently, the only thing I’m finding on-line is this packet from the Department of Education from 2006 regarding Liberty’s lax compliance with the Clery laws.
Have they improved? What independent organization can investigate Liberty? DoRight Liberty is young, but perhaps they might be able to get some answers.
Certainly not these guys:
